This place should be be permanently put out of business.
Our dog Axel got a tear in his ear,bad enough for stitches. I called five rivers per emergency in New Market. They said it would be 130.00 examination fee and on the very high side,500.00 but didn’t expect it to be that much. After being in parking lot ( they do not let you in building) for 10 minutes, The receptionist handed me an estimated cost of 975.00 !
I told her to get my dog and a receipt as I am holding my 130.00 in cash. She goes back inside and the «vet» lady come out and asked why I refused payment.. I explained that I didn’t refuse payment,I want my dog when I hand you this cash because I do not trust you any longer.
She started screaming and ran back inside and called the police. The police came, I handed the officer the Money and he brought my dog to me. This place is a scam,a rip off in our back yard.
Just a warning to anyone that has a pet issue. Drive a little further to UT vet clinic.
I just left UT Vet with my dog, literally charged me nothing to examine him with things I can do at home till morning when I can take him to his regular vet.

Ive brought dogs here several times. Always a little slow,its emergency care i get it. Not sure what has happened in the past year or so or which of the original investors have exited this platform,but it has become a place who has no concern for anyones time,the truth,or actually doing Triage on animals to assess their issues. A regular customer wouldn’t know if an animal has the mange or an allergy or a wicked fungus, they could have literally anything, my dog was bleeding from the ear upon arrival,we explained her symptoms to 2 people,who clearly had no idea what was going on with the animal,yet when you call into the office to inquire why we’ve sat for 3 hours and 30 minutes and nobody has even picked up the clipboard to even let someone with some medical experience know what is going on with the animal,they claim they’re seeing patients based on “urgency” Not one animal has gone in with any sort of serious trauma (not able to walk or bleeding like crazy etc) which means they now have un-educated people guessing who needs care based on their own uneducated knowledge and the ignorance of the customer who brought the dog into the office in the first place. This isn’t how Five Rivers operated for the past several years,this is all recent, previously they came back and actually picked up the papers that told what was going on and a doctor read thru the info and sometimes had to make a determination that pet B needed care more Urgently than pet A. Nothing even remotely like this occurs now. But it certainly appears based on the reviews of the past 12 months and my experience here tonight that Jefferson County no longer has a viable option for emergency Vet Care. We are back to where we were before this place opened and having to cart animals to Knoxville just to have them assessed,hell just to have someone come back and pick up the paper and give it to someone with some medical knowledge. After 3 hours and 45 minutes and running out of towels to soak up blood from my animals ear i finally decided to take her to a clinic that cares the way this one did at one time,clearly not any longer. This after being told at the 2 hours mark that “you should be next” followed by them taking back 3 animals that were clearly in far less distress that the dog i have with me,not that anyone knew that,because no assessment was ever made. Sad to see Jefferson county lose its emergency vet But we’ll drive to Montana before coming back to a place this incompetent ever again!

Absolutely wonderful service. Bit of a wait,but it’s an emergency vet and they had about 4 cars there already when I showed up. It’s curbside only,so you can’t go in with your pet,but I didn’t get the vibe that that was an issue from any of the employees (everyone seemed very pleasant and professional). I told them I could really only spend about $500,and they kept me within my budget while still getting all the stuff I needed to help make my dog feel better. She needs some additional testing they said they couldn’t currently provide,but I can work on that later once she’s feeling better,so no biggie. Dog went in looking like she was about to pass out,dog came out looking tired but more like herself (wagging a lot and trying to get me to pet her). Hopefully I won’t need this service again for a while (if ever),but I will definitely return here if I happen to have dog issues late at night

Pretty sure most of the bad reviews are just salty beans. Bunch of people mad that it’s more expensive or there’s a wait or they can’t go in. Like. Get over yourselves. You’re adults. If you’re complaining about the price of an emergency service,consider that you’re paying for 1) the service,2) the convenience,and 3) making it worth someone’s time to be working 12-8a when they could normally work,like,7a-4p. If there’s an actual emergency you’re having,you’ll be happy with what you get and can negotiate whatever else during the process. Some of y’all are acting like they’re abusing animals when they’re both helping your pet and trying to run a business.

Edit: It’s been about 2-3 weeks since I had to stop in here. My dog is dead. They told me they ran blood work to make sure she didn’t have organ failure. Funny they didn’t see her heart was failing so bad that it took 4x the usual time for the euthanasia meds to take her. Funny y’all said you did blood work but didn’t notice she had cancer on so many organs. The vet that I found who actually cared to fix the issue (in the worst way I could imagine) said nothing could have been done when I came here but euthanizing her,but I just wish this vet had actually run the blood work instead of apparently lying to me. The vet who euthanized her said,based on the receipt I gave them from this vet,the testing they charged me for would have at the very least found her heart issue. But it didn’t,and she was in pain longer than she needed to be. I’m not blaming this vet for my dog dying – it was going to happen regardless. I’m mad that they «ran testing» that should have caught something,should have saved me 2 more vet trips,should have put her out of her misery sooner. I trusted you with her. At the time,I felt you’d done what you could. Knowing what I know now,I would never trust this vet again.
